Greek Island Dreams – Overlay Mosaic Crochet Pattern

Greek Island Dreams was inspired by memories of backpacking around Greece many years ago. The beautiful islands, winding village streets, traditional windmills and sunsets by little churches stayed with me, and I wanted to capture some of that magic in an overlay mosaic crochet blanket.

This pattern has been fully updated since its original release and now includes full written instructions for both right-handed and left-handed crocheters, charts and supporting videos to help you along the way.

Create your own unique Greek-inspired blanket by mixing and matching the designs, choosing your favourite island name and arranging each section in any order you like.

What's included?

The pattern features six interchangeable design elements:

• Sailing boats – bringing the Aegean Sea to your blanket.

• Windmills – inspired by the iconic Greek island landscapes.

• Urns with bougainvillea – a touch of traditional Mediterranean charm.

• Village street scene – capturing the character of traditional Greek villages.

• Sunset by a church – inspired by those magical island evenings.

• Two dividing patterns – choose between a design inspired by ancient Greek symbols and waves, or one representing narrow, cobbled village lanes.

All sections can be arranged in any order, allowing you to design a blanket that reflects your own memories and favourite places.

Personalise your blanket with a Greek island name

The updated pattern includes templates for 12 names:

Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, Corfu, Rhodes, Paros, Naxos, Syros, Tinos, Ios, Amorgos and Greece.

Add the name of your favourite island to create a truly personal design. Whether you dream of Santorini's sunsets, the charm of Naxos or simply Greece itself, you can make your blanket your own.

The pattern also includes notes and instructions for making a matching pillow or cushion cover.

Size and stitch count

Each main pattern section measures 168 stitches, plus 2 border stitches, giving a total of 170 stitches per row.

The sample blanket measures approximately 110 cm wide × 130 cm long.

Finished measurements will vary depending on your yarn, hook size and individual tension.

Yarn requirements

For the sample blanket, using 100 g skeins:

• Background colour: Approximately 5 skeins.

• Turquoise: Approximately 2–3 skeins.

• Pink: Approximately 1–2 skeins.

Each 100 g skein contains approximately 281 metres / 307 yards.

Actual yarn requirements will depend on your chosen colour combination, tension and final blanket size.

Stitch terminology

• DC = Double crochet

• SC = Single crochet

• Bst. = Border stitch
